The MetroCog is working to develop a tool to identify and track any properties that maintain official brownfield status.

The MetroCog is working to develop a tool to identify and track any properties that maintain official brownfield status with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) and/or State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (CT DEEP).

Through the development of a publicly accessible inventory of the region's brownfield sites, we can we can better understand local land use patterns and their impact on the transportation network, further plan for the funding and redevelopment of investment ready sites, identify neighborhood assets that could be leveraged toward site redevelopment and enhance city marketing strategies to attract developers and businesses.

The provision of a coordinated tracking mechanism to facilitate site prioritization, strategic funding and the activities necessary for making a site investment ready will improve the region's capacity to determine the development potential of specific brownfield sites, the benefits that development could bring to the region and their competitiveness for and utilization of funding as it becomes available.
