We develop, endorse and maintain a short-range Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the Greater Bridgeport and Valley Regions.

The Greater Bridgeport and Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (GBVMPO) is authorized by federal regulations and designated by the Governor to develop, endorse and maintain a short-range Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for that portion of the Bridgeport-Stamford Urbanized Area covered by the Greater Bridgeport and Valley planning regions.

The TIP lists all proposed highway and transit improvement projects within the Greater Bridgeport and Valley planning regions programmed to receive federal assistance over the next four federal fiscal years. It is incorporated into the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program (STIP), and is collectively referred to as the TIP/STIP.

The staff of the MetroCog works collaboratively with the Connecticut Department of Transportation and local municipalities, as well as the Greater Bridgeport Transit, on developing project scopes, financial plans, and schedules. The TIP must be financially constrained, meaning there must be a reasonable expectation of federal financial assistance available to implement endorsed projects.

The current TIP, covering the 2015 through 2018 federal fiscal years was endorsed in October 2014. The TIP will be amended periodically to adjust project schedules, ensure full obligation of available funds and advance priority projects.

Availability of Annual Listing of Transportation Improvements

MetroCog announces the availability of the Annual Listing of Obligated Projects for Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2015.  The Annual Listing is required by federal regulations after the conclusion of a fiscal year to report on progress in implementing the five-year Transportation Improvement Program (TIP).  Although the TIP indicates planned funding for improvement projects and confers eligibility for federal funding, obligation effectively “locks in” the funding for projects and leads the way to implementation.
